GROWTH CIRCLES HOLIDAY MATCHING GIFT

You are getting this email because we share a concern about social justice and equity. As you know, most of my career has been dedicated to working in communities that are underserved. I am currently on the board of an amazing organization, Growth Circles. Growth Circles sends students from Bayside MLK (in Marin City) across the country to have an educational/cultural experience, connected to their school’s curriculum. For most students, this is their first time on an airplane, for others their first experience visiting another state and for even others of them, the first time they will have an out of school experience that deepens their understanding of their in school learning (making real life connections to the curriculum). This will be an unparalleled experience for them and yet can be a luxury that some often take for granted.

I’m looking for ten friends to donate $100 for this amazing opportunity. Last year, students went to New York City, where they visited the Stock Exchange, Ground Zero, several universities, attended a play on Broadway, and went to the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. I know, awesome, right? This year students will visit our nation’s capital, Washington D.C. There will be tremendous learning opportunities on this trip. This educational and cultural experience could change a young person’s life.

This holiday season, inspire Marin City middle school students by helping Growth Circles earn a $16,000 matching grant to support education through travel! A small group of generous donors led by Annikka Berridge and Gale and Jon Love are offering this match to double your donations through the end of 2017.

Your donation will make it possible for a student from Bayside MLK School in Marin City to spend spring break in Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, where they will learn about history, government and how they can change the world. They will visit Congress and the White House, Independence Hall, college campuses including Howard University, and museums and memorials including the African American Civil War Museum and National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Growth Circles was formed to inspire Bayside MLK’s students to think bigger and achieve more, encouraging students to move out of their comfort zones into life-expanding “growth circles.”
